Prasiolite, also known as Green Amethyst, is a rare silicon dioxide mineral and member of the Quartz family. It crystallizes in mass and fibrous formations, with the color green coming from inclusions of Iron. Most prasiolite is produced by heating natural amethyst in a laboratory oven to about 500 degrees Celsius. This heating changes the amethyst's color from purple to green or yellowish green.
